dc.description.abstract Uva and its environs are home to a large number of temples that assisted local rebel leaders as well as warriors in various ways during the 1818 War, also known as the Uva War of Independence and the Kandyan Rebellion. Some of the places that were variously involved in the freedom struggle later became temples. A large number of documents that can study the English side engaged in the war are safe in Sri Lanka and Britain, but there are legends about the Indigenous movement. This presentation summarizes the historical information about several temples and two devalayas, directly and indirectly, involved in the Uva freedom struggle. Also, many other places in the region contributed to the fighting. This book is a very concise compilation of information contained in folklore and legends, as well as information from studies conducted by this author and reported by various researchers and the Department of Archeology. en_US
