Abstract:
Dimbulagala Hill, which is about 18 kilometers away from Polonnaruwa
Kaduruwela town, is an ancient place that is not much visited by tourists.
Dating back to the 1st century BC, this Dimbulagala Buddhist center is an
important place with black water pond, blue water pond, Buddhist colleges,
Pulligoda paintings, panels with Brahmic word, stone Buddha statues. I
engaged in a field visit to collect this kind of information. Similarly, because
of my native village, I am very fond of this study. Local and foreign tourists
do not pay attention to this tourist place because of their ignorance about this
place. There are many reasons for it. Namely, limited historical records, remote
location, weak tourism promotions, limited local knowledge and rumors,
limited infrastructure, unrecognized cultural diversity, there are many
activities to attract tourists to Dimbulagala. That is, the infrastructure should
be developed systematically. For that, the support of the government as well
as the local communities should be taken. Likewise, Dimbulagala Mountain
has plant communities rich in dry zone biodiversity. Tourists should be
informed about this. Research and Development: Invest in research and
development to identify and showcase lesser-known attractions and historical
aspects of Dimbulagala. This will allow for a more diverse and enriching
tourist experience. Similarly, brochures and tourist advertisements should be
published in the vicinity of famous tourist spots about Dimbulagala.
Dimbulagala area is inhabited by various peoples like Sinhala, Tamil,
Adivasi... They have their own culture. State or non-state organizations should
intervene to show their cultures in front of tourists. The people of Dimbulagala
village should be given knowledge about hospitality management. Similarly,
tourists should be allowed to try things like Udesa water sports in the vicinity
of Dimbulagala Lake. By considering all these details, the historical place
called Dimbulagala can attract tourists from home and abroad.
